Amazon rolls out pay-with-palm tech at Whole Foods

(The Hill) — Amazon announced Thursday it is rolling out its pay-by-palm services in Whole Foods Market stores across the country. It lets customers use their hand to buy things conveniently without a wallet or phone. Get the latest, news, weather, sports and community events delivered right to your inbox! The palm recognition service, called Amazon One, will be available for payment and Prime membership benefits in all Whole Foods Market locations by the end of this year. Instead of traditional payment methods, the Amazon One allows customers to hover their pam over an Amazon One device. Customers who link their Prime membership with their Amazon One profile will also automatically receive savings once their palm is registered, according to the Seattle-based retail giant. JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – A disagreement between Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey and State Auditor Scott Fitzpatrick has been settled by the state supreme court. It has to do with Missourians’ constitutional right to direct democracy through the initiative petition process.The Missouri Supreme Court heard arguments Tuesday to decide if Bailey could override Fitzpatrick regarding the cost of initiative petitions asking voters if abortion rights should be restored. Bailey appealed a Cole County judge’s decision last month. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - A Dellwood man is accused of forcing his way into a stranger's home in order to hide from police.According to a report filed by the North County Police Cooperative, the incident occurred on July 15. Police claim Deondra Thomas, 20, was a passenger in a stolen car traveling in the city of St. Louis. City police attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver sped off.A police helicopter tracked the vehicle into St. Louis County. Eventually, the car stopped and everyone inside fled on foot. At least one Los Angeles Police Officer opened fire on a man and shot him in the chest in around mid-day Thursday in downtown Los Angeles. The man, believed to be 50 years old, was wearing no shirt and was armed with a butcher knife when he was shot in the 1000 block of 7th Street, according to the LAPD.Police called the Los Angeles Fire Department to treat the man's wound.The man's identity and condition have not been released.No further details were available. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is warning the public about the dangers of the ongoing heat wave, especially in certain parts of L.A. County.Public Health issued an excessive heat warning for the Antelope Valley, including the eastern and western portions, beginning Thursday and remaining in place through Saturday.While it's predicted high temperatures will remain in the triple digits after Saturday, they are expected to fall from the high 100s to the low 100s.Excessive heat warnings for Friday through Saturday were also issued for the northwest L.A. The 14U Walnut Softball All-Star Team won championships in La Verne and Redondo Beach to start off their season and finished second at the USA Softball Northern District Championships and State Championships, according to a GoFundMe set up to raise money for tournament fees and travel expenses.
