(NEXSTAR) – When pounding rain and lightning force you to take cover inside, a warm shower might be an inviting thought, but experts warn it could be more dangerous than you think.Lightning can travel through plumbing, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says.It's not just showers that should be avoided, but all activities that use water from the home's pipes, including bathing, washing dishes and washing hands."The risk of lightning traveling through plumbing might be less with plastic pipes than with metal pipes," the CDC says. "However, it is best to avoid any contact with plumbing and running water during a lightning storm to reduce your risk of being struck." It also said excessive groundwater pumping was a contributor. Two health care providers serving the Lake Superior area, Essentia Health and Marshfield Clinic Health System, have agreed to merge later this year.The Duluth-based and Marshfield, Wis.-based health care systems signed an “integration agreement,” or merger clause, to move the merger forward, the systems announced in a news release Thursday.The two systems had previously signed a memorandum of understanding in October while they were in talks mulling the potential merger.The new system will have 3,800 providers and 150 sites of care, 25 of which are hospitals, across Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, the news release said.It will be led by Essentia Health CEO Dr. David Herman, who will serve as the CEO of “a new parent company,” the news release said.“Each time I meet with our Marshfield colleagues, I am excited for our future together and what we can build and sustain to better serve our patients, communities and colleag...Mayor Sheehan announces Lark Street revitalization project

(NEWS10) -- Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan alongside Department of General Services Commissioner Sergio Panunzio announced the commencement of a $3.3 million investment into the revitalization of Lark Street between Madison Avenue and Washington Avenue. ST. LOUIS - A man arrested Thursday in a St. Louis child sex crime case now faces criminal charges, and police say he is also linked to a second victim. Prosecutors have charged Osmani Haji Gul, 34, with first-degree sodomy, sexual misconduct, attempted statutory sodomy and four-degree assault in connection with two alleged incidents. Investigators say the victim, a 6-year-old boy, was riding his bicycle when a man walked up to the child, snatched him off the bike, and took the boy to a nearby vacant residence and sexually assaulted him. ST. CHARLES -- A truck driver died after a fatal crash on I-70 early Friday morning. He has been identified by the Missouri State Highway Patrol as James Melton, 36, of Wentzville, Missouri.A semi truck driver was stopping because of traffic congestion in a construction zone on westbound I-70 at around 12:30 a.m. Friday. Melton was driving a Dodge Ram pickup and failed to see the semi slow down. ST. LOUIS - A man convicted of murder in a deadly shooting several years ago has been sentenced to life in prison. Kennice Brock, 51, was convicted of first-degree murder and armed criminal action over the murder of Carl Netter in July 2020. She says an Uber stranded her, then things really got weird According to the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office, Brock walked into a neighborhood barbecue at Biker’s Corner and shot netter after he was repeatedly asked to put his weapon away. This happened in the 1900 block of North Vandeventer Avenue in the Jeff-Vander-Lou neighborhood.Investigators say Brock fled to his home in Memphis after the shooting. Police are searching for several suspects in Orange County after they robbed a bank and fled from the scene in Brea Friday afternoon. Initial reports indicate that three suspects are wanted in connection with the Brea bank robbery, which led to a pursuit that came to an end the parking lot of Angel Stadium.
