Indiana bill would help provide police bleeding control kits

INDIANAPOLIS - Indiana lawmakers want more law enforcement officers to carry tourniquets and other medical supplies to slow bleeding. Some agencies, such as the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, have had their officers carry tourniquet kits for years. Sgt. Genae Cook said they've been a vital tool. Buona, Rainbow Cone opening in Valparaiso "We've had numerous times where doctors have come to us afterwards and said because of the officer's fast reaction and the ability to put a tourniquet on, this saved this person's life," she said.Donations allowed IMPD to obtain the kits, Sgt. Cook said. AUSTIN (KXAN) -- One year ago, five separate tornadoes moved through Central Texas causing damage and injuries-- but thankfully no deaths.Jeff Mangum was a storm chaser with Tornado Trackers. WACO, Texas (FOX 44) - Blain Lenoir, 19, received big help to pursue his college career after years of battling Leukemia. Blain was given a $10,000 scholarship through Northwestern Mutual's 2022 Childhood Cancer Survivor program. The scholarship aims to ease the financial burden for families who undergo childhood cancer treatments. Northwestern Mutual Foundation president, Steven Radke says, "Childhood cancer robs children and their families of far too much, and that should not include the opportunity to pursue their dreams of a college degree."Blain was diagnosed with cancer in November 2015. At the time, he was 11 years old playing competitive baseball. What his family thought was a typical baseball tournament turned into a scare. After three games in 24 hours, his family noticed a large bump on the side of his neck. Doctors diagnosed him with T-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Dave Zyglewicz finished his career with a record of 32 wins and four losses.One of those losses came when he fought boxing legend Joe Frazier. Zyglewicz was raised on Wiswall Avenue in Watervliet. Los Angeles Unified School District campuses will be closed tomorrow after labor talks came to a standstill and no additional negotiations were scheduled with service workers who are striking to demand higher wages and improved working conditions. Service Employees International Union, Local 99, which represents about 30,000 teachers’ aides, bus drivers, custodians, cafeteria workers and other support staff will be participating in the strike, which is set to begin early tomorrow morning. AMERICAN CANYON, Calif. (KRON) -- Two people were arrested in American Canyon on Sunday night in connection with catalytic converter thefts, the American Canyon Police Department said. Just before 11 p.m., police responded to American Canyon Mini Storage, located at 3700 Broadway Street after the business' alarm was activated. It was also reported to police that a suspicious man was walking around inside with a skill saw, which police said is used to steal catalytic converters. Gas station robbery suspect arrested in front of Hercules High School ACPD and the Napa County Sheriff's Office set a perimeter around the area.
